Gottcha day

Today was Sorrel's gotcha day, two years ago she came a traumatised dog today we still have a few issues we are working on but she has come on so much and such a character, I love her to bits. This would have been a much longer post of what she has been up to BUT I have been occupied with 4 lost guinea pigs.

Farmer J is out tonight in Toulouse with our children at the bikini club (hopefully he won't be wearing a bikini) so I am in charge. I went to shut the rabbits and guinea pigs away to only find the rabbits, no pigs, no sign of being taken or of escaping so the only place they could be was under the hut. In charge of a  screwdriver (yes it took a while to sort out how to work it to get the screws out), I have managed to undo farmer J's what we thought was good pig proofing to find them having a party under the house, well think they were enjoying themselves as there was no sign of them coming out.

For an hour I used a pole to place it on the ground and move it along to hopefully push them out. With long grass under and it being dark this proved difficult, just as well they are light in colour I could see them with a head torch.  In the end, I had to move the pole along getting them to one end quickly getting a plank of wood wedged between the ground and floor of the hut as they wedged themselves between a stone enabling me to get one before the others scuttled off.

They are all safely inside tonight, I haven't screwed the planks back ( a job for farmer J tomorrow), my back is aching, my clothes are in soak with mud and grass stains from laying on the ground and I am drinking wine, yes on a weeknight these guinea pigs are going to be the death of me and Lid's who has been hoping over the chicken wire and was promptly thrown over it tonight otherwise I think he may have been helping me not in the way I would of wanted.

A moment from the week at La Singlarie Another steer went off on Wednesday. After spending 3 years with them it doesn't get any easier when they leave.

Weeding

Potatoes A sad looking patch Hunting for carrots The weather has now gone from one extreme to the other from rain, rain and a bit more rain to hot, sunny and hotter. Time to access the veggie patch after I planted everything in one hit and then it got very damp and soggy. Well the potatoes are growing well, although they are going to be a lot later this year, kind of Earlie's for late ones and late ones maybe ready for Christmas dinner ( if they survive the bugs, rabbits and moles). The weeds have and still are growing really well, this morning was spent finding the carrots and parsnips, which I have with no help from Sorrel, who after a quick sniff lazed under the shade of the apple tree (which by the looks of it hasn't got hardly any apples on it?) The poor herb seeds sowed don't look to good or the french and runner beans, think a hungry mouse have nibbled on them so I will have to resow (once I have weeded -again)

A problematic Ewe

While Master C and Miss F were here over the weekend we took the opportunity for their help in moving the two ewes, Gorgon and Thumberlina to the field where the donkeys had been. What with all the rain we have had lately the grass grow super quick. The only problem was Miss Fatty did not want to move from her safe field (if only she knew she was moving to new lush grass). It took farmer J and Master C to try moving her after pushing from me and Master C had failed and she fell to the floor not moving an inch. There try also failed so they were both lead through the field in another direction. Of course once in the new field there was no looking back. Gorgon on the other hand was a breeze to move, as long as you have food he will follow, you just need to make sure you have enough food!
