INJA
Dear Inja here is a Griffon/Labrit mix. At two years old she is adorable but very timid, so a fenced in garden is a must here together with loving owners who have the patience to teach Inja that not all humans are despicable.
That's the post that was put on Poorpaws blog which I read and it's all history now. When I picked her up this is where she had hidden herself.
Scarred of human contact she didn't want to be touched, tail firmly between her legs she half walked half crawled as she was put in the car. Unused to travelling throwing up twice we got home and left her to settle. By the first sleepless night we figured out she had separation anxiety.
It's now been almost four months shes been with us, renamed Sorrel each day has been a little challenging but it is getting better. Taking on a rescue dog with many issues of being mistreated, missing out on socialisation and in complete fear of everything is a real learning curve but so rewarding when a little step is reached and overcome.
Sorrel's character is coming out, she loves walking now with her harness ( to stop her from slipping her collar and running off), which seems to of helped her by giving her a bit of confidence so much so she is has a happy tail wag when we meet dogs on a walk, although still scared of barky ones behind gates as is Tyser and myself. Meeting people on walks and ones that come to the house is a different matter we are still very scared, but we have a lovely friend who has volunteered to come on dog walks now and again so over time she is now happy for Anita to follow.
Everyone also sleeps through the night. Although Sorrel has a passion for foraging for food. We have now learnt to put ALL edible food away, butter isn't good for the next days poos! Eggs are quiet messy on the floor and bread leaves tell tell crumbs in your bed. We have got through so many loaves of bread as they are now hidden in the oven. The only draw back to this is we have two ovens and depending on which is being used the loaf has to alternate or not and we have ended up with many a loaf twice cooked coated in the plastic bag it was stored in. Tomorrow a bread bin is to be purchased although its going to have to be pretty big for all those other 'extras' that need to be hidden and probably unbreakable too.
Sorrel has a big surprise in store on Monday, hopefully it will help my french and keep Farmer J happy (his not a dog person) but maybe Sorrel will guest blog to tell the tale.
Note: A Labrit is a Pyrenees sheep dog.Sheep dogs are trainable right? I was hoping for 50% labrit in the mix, if it's there I think possibly 5% at the most. On her health book she is noted as Griffon fauve de Bretagne cross. By her howl and nose to the ground sniffing we may have another hunting dog.
Good luck for Monday - I look forward to reading Sorrel's blog post!
