Its been a bit wet here this week, showers and cloudy with just a little bit of sunshine has meant everywhere is looking very green. The veggies are growing well (apart from the brassicas which have been severely nibbled by the pesky rabbits) which also means the weeds are coming along nicely as well. Today is suppose to be the last day of rain for a while which will be good news for our gite guests.
The first big bunch of beetroot was pulled up. This year I have managed to grow white and yellow as well as purple (last year pulled up the yellow thinking they were weeds)
Mabel and Maude seem to think their role at La Singlarie is watch ducks. At last they are coming outside on their own, jumping up on the wall where they spend their time surveying the chickens and pigs. If only they could do something about those rabbits ....
Gorgon and the girls were getting a bit over whelmed with their task of keeping the grass eaten so farmer J put the giro on the tractor to give it a trim. Its looking very tidy now and the pigs seem to be enjoying shorter grass to eat. I'm hoping this will also show up the rabbits as we have a family of buzzards have nested in our left hand side field which may make a small dent in our rabbit population around the farm.
Ive been strimming my little socks off. This cooler weather its far better to work in, the most viscous thistles were taken out of the sheep's field along with an empty chicken run, nettles for the pigs, the edges of Gorgons field (where farmer J couldn't get to) and the old chicken run next to the veggie patch. The old chicken run needs to be put to use so I'm thinking of fruit bushes although there is a huge tree in the middle of it so will have to think if there will be enough sun light.
We had our 27th wedding anniversary on Friday where we celebrated by going to the restaurant, art et galets we were suppose to go to with friends last week. The service was good, presentation amazing and ambiance fine but unfortunately the food just didn't hit the mark. Such a shame as last time we came here it was really good. It's been taken over so hopefully with time it will get better.
With the giro on the back of the tractor farmer J went up into our woods to trim the trees and cut the paths, we can now walk along the paths without getting attacked by brambles and tree branches.
I found the first cep of the season in our woods, a few girolles have been already been picked and eaten but the cep is the regarded as the best mushroom here. With this wet weather hopefully mushroom hunting will be productive - that's if we beat the rest of the foragers to them.
