As we are now well into autumn it is time for the darker, colder months of crafting. The spinning wheel has been oiled, knitting needles sorted and fleeces from last year finally coming out of their box. As it is British wool week this week I will be celebrating by reengaging with my carder, spinning wheel and needles. My Ashford Joy travel wheel hasn't seen the light of day for a long time, a bit like riding a bike you soon get into the swing of pedalling - bumpy bulky weight turns into thinner less bumpy wool that fits on a spindle and can be plied to resemble a ball of wool. I am at the stage of aran/ dk weight - no 4ply for me (takes far to long to knit on tiny needles).
Today I managed to spend the day spinning at the South West France spinners and weavers group, the first meeting I have made since the beginning of summer. I spun some Shetland , enough hopefully for a project for the Christmas meetings show & tell. It has to be a wall hanging, I am searching for a pattern for I have an idea... It may be a woolly blogging week.
