The weeds have gone.
So far this week I've been able to set to on the veggie patch. While having a coffee and flicking through this month's Country Living magazine I read an article about a couple who have a small holding producing organic herbal remedy plants for skincare. Reading a weed is only a plant in the wrong place I thought I bet he doesn't have a burdock growing between his parsnips and beetroot. The only way I could get it out was to cut the leaves off, for the roots are more or less impossible to get out when its this big. How did it get to this size? I have lots of 'plants' in the wrong place.
It's all looking a bit tidier, although the edges are work in progress. Ive found the lettuce and leeks with a few scwiffy lines of carrots, not sure how I went off my straight line but have managed to re seed this time a little straighter. I've pondered on how funny it is that some weeds seem to grow next to their look alike plants - very clever, was amazed at the beetroot look alike and only pulled a few out until I realised they were a mixed packet of golden and purple, so use to the green/purple leaves growing. The organic golden seeds I planted last year done nothing maybe it's something to do with the wet weather we've had.
Peas, broad beans, french and coco beans are coming along, now with supports to grow up. Even the tomatoes are looking healthier more can be said for the peppers and aubergines, don't think it's going to be a good crop this year.
The fruit bushes are doing well with a bounty of berries, raspberries every day enough to store some in the freezer. Sadly the strawberries I replanted have been a total flop all leaves and no fruit. If I can remember they are the type of cultivated wild strawberry, they have a good taste but don't have the colour. Think I may have to pull them up and restock for next year.
Now the veggie patch is looking a bit tidier I rather fancy a chair here, somewhere to sit and plot my next task, with my travel mug in tow, a present from my friend along with my pink knee pads to save my knees while weeding or maybe for when I start up skate boarding while walking the dogs.

Ive strimmed, sheared, raked and pulled stubborn weeds. My hands have tingled for a few days with nettle stings and a lot of wheel barrows have been filled. At least those pesky 'plants' go to a good use the pigs love tucking into weeds, especially nettles but no dock leaves for no one likes dock leaves, believe me we have tried.

It's looking good! What a bounty of berries. Glad you're putting the knee pads and mug to good use!
ReplyDeleteThink the mug may be a good disguise for a pimmms to enjoy while sitting on my bench, can picture it now but think not a lot of work will be done!
