A bit of a birthday and technology

A bit of a Birthday and technology

I had a birthday at the beginning of the week, another year older another year wiser I said. Another year older farmer J said. It was a Good day shared with the family, after the electric fencing enclosing the pigs had been found to be faulty we had eggs Benedict for brunch.

The weather tidied itself up and we went to Cordes Sur Ciel, a small village in the Tarn. Future post to follow

We ate out that evening at the hotel up in Najac (Monday being a bad day for anything to be open here)
I had lots of presents including a picture drawn by Miss F for my crafty room.

My early present to myself was my 7 " tablet and this keyboard,  I'm amazed by its smallness, and a lot easier to use with a keyboard which enables me to write this blog.

So do I feel any wiser? In some ways yes in others no, I still can't say no to that last glass of wine, I still haven't got the French language and haven't still learnt you can't make a check on the pigs wearing best clothes, however quiet you are they have to come and investigate with their muddy snouts.

The week progressed into one of those things going wrong week , usually of the electrical type (or motor) they seem to go wrong in sets of threes?

The first item on our going wrong list this time was the pigs electric box that's connected to the mains feeding the current round their enclosures to keep the wee loves in. Not enough current going through. Our smallest wee love, runty boy learnt from an early age he had an advantage over his siblings. Being small he could nip under the wire as he got a bit bigger a quick run under may result in a shock but as the grass is greener on the other side a gentle shock was a small price to pay.  Escapology must of stuck in his mind. So with a dodgy electric fence he took advantage.

Runty boy continuously out has dug up the woods, the path and even got his sister to join him. pigs who's wish to dig can make quiet an impressive mess in a short time! but enough was enough his escaping had to stop.

New box brought and pig safely stuck in his run, but there's a twinkle in his eye to see  what he can get up to next.

Second item coming down to get the washing out of the machine i noticed it was putting on a very jolly light show, green, orange and red blips  of light how strange, least the door opened (with water inside) our poor under a year old (luckily still under guarantee) machine has given up. Too much muddy clothes one thinks or could it be those old cleats, bits of wire or pencils farmer J ? Or those lighters and memory sticks master C - can't believe they still work after a 40○ wash but they do. Or could it be the tissues Miss F ? no family member empties their pockets, if i find money i think this is a perk of the job. I've noticed how dirty washing comes home even if its a short stay guess this is normal as it's free.

Thirdly for a while now our printer has been out of salts, its a bit tired, some days it prints other days it starts and jams. some days are blue or green others are so grey you can't read the print. when you want to print flyer's out it can only do one at s time. printing is a long process. Thursday it kind of died.

Saturday a new one  arrived and what a printer, it does everything (apart from making the tea). it has it's own email address, i can even email it to print when I'm not here - not sure why as if I'm not here why do i want it to print? Farmer J is still wondering how they can make them so cheap - cheap labour from china i say.
Only hope the following week doesn't follow  in the same electric failure way.

2ENJ093 - FRANKLIN

Eight years ago today Franklin came into our family, a rescue dog from the SPA in Rodez we drove to see if they had a dog to re home. He had been there a month after being left tied to a bin in the town centre, chosen because he didn't bark, he came to us to say hello and was completely different from the dog we had lost days before Christmas. 120 Euros he cost, a young boy still a pup, very thin but with a look of take me home please. A collar put round his neck, forms completed, cheque handed over and a kiss from the manager and he was ours. Five minutes down the road in the car he threw up. Five minutes in the house and he had weed up the settee and collected an assortment of treasures including socks, toilet roll inner tubes, tissues and soft toys all placed in a pile under the table and garded. He ate at an amazing speed, fearing he would loose it to our other dogs. Then he started to bark, he has a fine bark on him. He barks for his tea, when a visitor arrives, the

Parisot lake

As it is a holiday today here in France (Bastille Day) we took the afternoon off an popped over to Parisot lake for a walk with Sorrel. It has all changed, since the lake was emptied and cleaned up this year you can now swim in it, as well as inflatable toys to play on, a life guard, bikes to hire, a new fenced in play area for small people and a total spruce up. But there is a price we were charged! 3 euros an adult, which I guess is OK if you are using the facilities but Sorrel didn't fancy a dip. The cafe is still open but that would of been too much for Sorrel to cope with being so close to people and music so we opted for a bench to sit on in the shade before walking around the lake. Sorrel opted for being Billy no mates and laying by herself, if be it for a short period of time before bikes and people went by. We are now waiting for the free firework celebrations over the chateau tonight - if we can stay up that late.😃

Lavender

One plant that does grow well around the gites and garden and that I don't seem to be able to kill is lavender. In the summer the bushes are swarming with bees, hummingbird moths, butterflies and other flying insects, lot of holiday photos have been taken by keen photographers, some setting up chairs and waiting for ages with big cameras and lenses waiting for the right moment and right insect to land. It does give a lovely show and smell as well, its picked and placed in vases in the gites by guests. Its very tactile and difficult to pass without a rub of a flower that's if you like the smell. I think its very much like marmite you either love it or hate it, a smell of memories of grans and old aunts who use to get given Yardley's old lavender smellies for presents. I like the smell but it can be quiet overpowering, especially when this year I have finally been able to save the dried flowers. Previous years other things have got in the way and its bee
